The Genesis Fund
Executive Director
Waltham, MA
May 2012
The Genesis Fund seeks an Executive Director to join a highly regarded and mission-driven organization committed to providing families and their children born with physical and intellectual disabilities and genetic disorders the support they need. The Genesis Fund was founded in 1982 by Dr. Murray Feingold to bridge the gap between coordinated, clinical care and the services typically covered by health insurance. The Genesis Fund supports three major programs that provide medical and emotional support for families and their children.
About The Genesis Fund
The Genesis Fund strives to enrich the lives of families and their childrenaffected by birth defects, genetic disorders, and intellectual disabilities. The Fund supports The Feingold Center at Children’s Hospital Boston at Waltham, Therapy and the Performing Arts – Cape Cod, the Pregnancy Exposure InfoLine, and otherprograms to ensure that these children receive the care necessary to maximize their potential.
The Genesis Fund was founded to provide funding for more in-depth care that is not covered by health insurance for children with special needs. The Fund strives to ensure that these children, who often have multiple disabilities, receive expert medical care that is coordinated and comprehensive to meet individual needs regardless of their financial situation. Comprehensive coordinated care includes referrals to the most competent medical specialists, providing genetic counseling, coordinating multiple appointments, organizing therapeutic programs in local communities, and taking the time to answer the many questions that parents have regarding their child’s condition and care. This model of care is the hallmark of The Genesis Fund, and ensures that patients receive the services and support they need to live their lives to the fullest.
Programs Supported by The Genesis Fund
The Genesis Fund primarily supports The Feingold Center at Children’s Hospital Boston at Waltham, Therapy and the Performing Arts – Cape Cod, and The Pregnancy Exposure InfoLine (PEIL).
The Feingold Center for Children at Children’s Hospital, Waltham
The physicians at The Feingold Center for Children, located on the Waltham campus of Children’s Hospital Boston, provide diagnosis and treatment for children with physical, intellectual, and genetic disorders. Many of these children require the care of numerous specialists. The Center staff coordinates these appointments, thereby decreasing the number of office and hospital visits. The Center supports nine satellite clinics throughout New England, which allow children and families to receive care in their local community. The Center also offers genetic counseling for prospective parents and individuals with a family history of a genetic disease.
Therapy and the Performing Arts – Cape Cod
Therapy and the Performing Arts programs afford children and young adults with special needs the opportunity to participate in various arts and recreational programs. In addition to receiving therapeutic benefit from these fun activities, the children also gain new and rewarding experiences from which they develop self-confidence and increased motor function. The programs include music, dance, drama, art, horseback riding, and more. Classes are taught by certified instructors and therapists.
The Pregnancy Exposure InfoLine (PEIL)
The Pregnancy Exposure InfoLine (PEIL) is a confidential, free telephone service dedicated to providing clinicians, pregnant women, and their families with reliable information about the potential risks of exposures before and during pregnancy. Healthcare providers are also able to access these services so that they may confidently prescribe medications and educate their own patients.
