Assistant Vice Chancellor for Corporate and Foundation Relations

About the Position
The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Corporate and Foundation Relations is a senior member in the emerging development team for UMass Boston, and a member of the Advancement leadership team and will be responsible for cultivating a dynamic roster of corporate and foundation prospects, and for soliciting and securing considerable levels of support.

The Assistant Vice Chancellor will also:

  • identify appropriate prospects through research and by leveraging relationships of the University;
  • engage in significant outreach with corporations and private foundations locally and nationally;
  • partner closely with faculty and staff throughout the university and within the Advancement team to develop compelling proposals in support of priority programs and initiatives;
  • prepare an average of four proposals per month to private/family foundations and/or corporations;
  • make four monthly visits with foundation program officers and/or corporate leaders to build relationships and cultivate future support;
  • design strategies and solicit corporate sponsorships for conferences, galas, golf tournaments, athletics, and other fund-raising events;
  • partner with the Vice Chancellor and/or Associate Vice Chancellor for University Advancement on strategic planning and goal setting for the division’s corporate and foundation annual and campaign goals;
  • work closely with faculty, deans, vice chancellors, administrative units and other personnel to create proposals and build corporate and private foundation engagement and support;
  • develop proposal template materials to be used by others;
  • work with advisory councils and boards to open doors to advocate for funding, or gifts-in-kind, and to participate in advancing proposals;
  • participate in community groups and attend civic association meetings;
  • brief and accompany Academic Officers, Vice Chancellor or Associate Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, Provost and the Chancellor on foundation/corporate visits to build partnerships and secure support;
  • actively engage in any alumni development event gatherings that expand outreach;
  • conceptualize and implement foundation research/cultivation/stewardship program;
  • collaborate with prospect research officer in seeking new prospects;
  • maintain current and accurate database of all corporate and foundation records and activity;
  • create VIP corporate and foundation mailing list to use for special University mailings;
  • maintain adherence to donor intent and IRS regulations;
  • work collaboratively with pre-award staff in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to ensure compliance with those grants which have financial terms and conditions;
  • supervise and mentor additional members of the Corporate and Foundation Relations team, ensuring their productivity and monitoring their activity and milestones;
  • and other projects as specified by the Vice Chancellor of University Advancement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred, with eight to ten years of demonstrated progressive experience in a fund-raising environment and proven track record of securing six and seven figure grants.
  • At least five years experience with demonstrated success of writing grant proposals to foundations and corporations in an academic or healthcare environment.
  • At least six to eight years supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of the Boston business/corporate/foundation community a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of people within and outside the university.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment desirable.
