Development Operations Manager

As a member of EngenderHealth's Development Department, the Development Operations Manager will support the philanthropic efforts of EngenderHealth to raise unrestricted and restricted funds from individuals, as well as general operating support from foundations and corporations. Reporting to the Director of Development, this position will play a critical role in overseeing operations and systems, direct mail management, financial reporting, gifts processing, and technology, as well as supporting the major gift team as necessary, including management of wealth screening analysis. Additionally, the Development Operations Manager will oversee two (2) administrative staff, support the work of fellow team members, and collaborate with consultants and outside vendors. The Development Operations Manager will be a senior member of the team and have deep experience in data management and reporting, a strong annual fund management background, a solid history as a supervisor, and enjoy working with a committed team of development professionals.

 

The Development Operations Manager will be responsible for creating and implementing strategies for annual fund management and growth, donor acknowledgement, and database management. The Development Operations Manager will also oversee and monitor the departmental budget in collaboration with the Director of Development.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•  Partner with the Director of Development and key staff in the Development and Finance Departments to ensure timely systems are in place to accept, maintain, report, respond to, and acknowledge gifts and pledges.

•  Oversee Development staff charged with implementing these systems, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of all donor-related data.

•  Produce monthly and quarterly reports for use within the Development department, as well as income reports for reconciliation purposes. In addition, respond to Finance Department's routine and periodic requests for information.

•  Serve as in-house expert for Raiser's Edge, including conversions, upgrades, and enhancements, uploads, downloads, and staff training and troubleshooting.

•  Manage direct mail marketing efforts (including acquisition, upgrade/renewal, stewardship mailings), partnering with vendors, Communications staff and other Development team members as necessary.

•  Manage all administrative processes and tasks for the Development Department and provide support as necessary to all team members, including frontline fundraisers.

•  Oversee EngenderHealth's trade list, including annual updates to list and handling requests for rental/exchange of list.

•  Create data files for various in-house and mailing house mailings (including annual report, newsletter, primary stewardship group mailings, thank-a-thons, vendor solicitation mailing, and other mailings as applicable).

•  Assist with the preparation of annual workplan and budget, as well as income projections and regularly review the Development department's revenue and expenses, track department-wide progress to goals, and regularly update the Director of Development on progress.

•  Review all financial reports and gift agreements.

•  Serve as the direct interface between EngenderHealth and wealth screening firm to ensure fulfillment of contract, integration of data in database and interpretation of screening results

•  Assist with the bidding process when outside vendors are engaged, assuring all organizational SOPs are followed.

•  Perform other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:

•  Bachelor's degree required. MPA, MBA or other advanced degree preferred but not required.

•  5-7 years of development experience with demonstrated success in strategy development and goal-setting and operations capacities. Experience with multiple organizations is preferable (and may include volunteer experience).

•  2-3 years experience effectively supervising multiple staff with proven results.

•  3-5 years experience working with Raiser's Edge, including experience training and troubleshooting.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

•  Appreciation and understanding of EngenderHealth's mission and ability to effectively communicate it.

•  Excellent computer and MS Office skills, including word-processing, spreadsheets, Raiser's Edge database, Crystal Reports, and the Internet.

•  High level of attention to detail and ability to multi-task.

•  Effective interpersonal skills and ability to maintain important relationships with internal constituencies.

•  Proven oral and written communications skills.

•  Superior organizational and time management skills, proven ability to meet projected deadlines.

•  Excellent judgment, discretion, and respect for donor confidentiality.

•  Flexibility, patience, a sense of humor, and the ability to be a team player.
