Position Description:

As a member of Facing History's Global Fundraising initiative, the Grants Writer is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding corporate and foundation donors for specified offices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Researching potential corporate and foundation funders
  • Writing letters of inquiry, concept papers, proposals, progress reports, and end-of-the-year letters
  • Working with development staff on development strategies, cultivation, and stewardship efforts
  • Working with program staff to develop action plans and budgets for programs and projects
  • Working with program staff to monitor effective implementation of grant requirements
  • Stewarding and soliciting corporate gifts and providing support to specified offices
  • Tracking proposals and grants through the use of grant and project-tracking databases


Essential Skills/Qualities:

  • BA/BS required
  • At least two years experience in grant writing required
  • Excellent writing, research and computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills, in person and on the phone
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Creative energy, self-starter
  • Interest in and ability to articulate the mission of this non-profit
