Director of Campaign and Major Gifts

Noble and Greenough School, an independent middle and high school located just outside of Boston, MA seeks a Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer. The Officer will report to the Director of Campaign and Major Gifts and will join a strong major gifts team as it prepares to launch a campaign. S/he will manage a portfolio of 150+ prospects and solicit gifts of $50K+. S/he will also lead the First Class Fund for Faculty by building and driving a committee of senior class parents raising funds for faculty needs.
Founded in 1866, Nobles is a rigorous academic community dedicated to inspiring leadership for the public good. Nobles is located on a 187-acre campus in Dedham , Massachusetts. The current enrollment of 586 includes a balance of boys and girls.
Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Plan and direct key aspects of the Campaign establishing overall objectives and priorities.
- Manage the campaign staff to ensure campaign dollar goals are reached.
- Monitor work and evaluate results to ensure that departmental and operating requirements are met on a timely basis.
- Manage a portfolio of 180-200 capital prospects and solicit gifts to the campaign, including renewals and increased leadership gifts through identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects of $50,000 and above.
- Develop strategies and approaches to generate ever-higher levels of giving.
- Complete a minimum of 16 documented personal visits a month or the equivalent of 4 visits a week.
- Manage one reunion class year, including recruitment of reunion committees and reunion giving.
- Serve as the staff liaison with the campaign leadership volunteers, specifically the chairs of the campaign committee.
- Work with the Director of Donor Relations, ensuring that all major donors receive appropriate, consistent recognition and an accounting of the impact that their gift has on Nobles.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of the School, The Assistant Head for External Affairs or the Director of Development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of 8 years combined leadership and major gift fund-raising experience including three years of management experience in a senior management capacity with a complex not-for-profit organization.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
- Extensive experience working with volunteers.
- Proven fund-raising, leadership and consensus building skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate groups and individuals.
- Specialized knowledge related to planned giving and major gifts fund-raising.
- Ability to work effectively with donors and professional advisors.
- Ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations and tight deadlines.
- Ability to ask leading questions which encourage prospects and donors to talk about themselves and their philanthropic priorities.
- Excellent computer skills for a PC and working knowledge of Raiser's Edge fundraising software preferable.
