About Suffolk
Suffolk University is a private, comprehensive, urban university located on historic Beacon Hill in Boston, with three other Massachusetts locations and international campuses in Madrid, Spain, and Dakar, Senegal. The University's mission is to provide quality education at a reasonable cost for students of all ages and backgrounds with strong emphasis on diversity. The University is committed to educating students to become lifelong learners, as well as professionals who lead and serve the communities in which they live and work.
The VP leads a centralized team of 50 advancement professionals who work closely with the Deans of the College of Arts and Sciences, Sawyer School of Business and the Law School. In all, there are 8,000 current students and more than 60,000 alumni of the University. The annual revenue exceeds $260M.
The Opportunity
Building on the success of its current $75M Centennial campaign and the University's fiscal strength, the new VP for Advancement will work in partnership with President Sargent, the Provost and the Trustees and Deans to guide the campaign to completion, and:
- Articulate the philanthropic vision and design/implement the strategies required for the University to sustain its extraordinary growth - cultivate, solicit and steward a full pipeline of Presidential Gifts (7 and 8 figures)
- Collaborate with the Deans and Senior Management in taking advantage of fundraising and alumni opportunities
- Establish fundraising, alumni and development communication objectives, set performance standards and productivity measures and evaluates performance of front line, administrative and support staff
- Serve as a senior member of University management
- Represent the University in various public arenas
- Staff the Trustees Development Committee
Gifts to the campaign have enhanced Suffolk's ability to keep its doors open to less privileged students; recruit and retain a world-class faculty; expand and modernize its Beacon Hill campus; and advance the programs that cultivate engaged, active citizenship.
Ideal candidates should demonstrate
- Ability to serve as a strategic partner with the University President, Trustees, Deans, faculty and alumni leadership
- Success cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding 7 and 8 figure gifts
- Evidence of effective campaign planning
- Ability to inspire and effectively manage staff, volunteers, administrators and faculty with measureable results
- Exemplary integrity, communication skills, organizational effectiveness and work ethic
- Genuine alignment with Suffolk 's educational values of access, opportunity and excellence
- Previous success as a Vice President or Associate Vice President preferred but not required. Top tier compensation reflects the value placed upon this position by the President and University.
