April 25, 2012 – TIME columnist Joe Klein featured client, The Mission Continues in his weekly column, “In the Arena” which covers national and international affairs. Recently, Mr. Klein attended the orientation session for Bravo Class 2012 of The Mission Continues which he describes as “a terrific public service program founded by former Navy SEAL Eric Greitens.” Click here to read the column in its entirety.

The Mission Continues is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to empower post-9/11 veterans to begin new lives as citizen leaders here at home and to challenge post-9/11 veterans to rebuild a sense of purpose through community service. Many veterans struggle to find purpose at home without the structure, mission and camaraderie of a military unit. Through service, veterans find renewed strength and purpose while building stronger communities.

The Mission Continues was founded in 2007, after CEO Eric Greitens returned home from service in Iraq as a Navy SEAL. After visiting wounded Marines at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland, Eric realized that those Marines expressed an unwavering desire to continue serving their country, even if they could no longer do so in the military. Inspired, Eric used his own combat pay and two friends pitched in their military disability checks to found The Mission Continues.

March 5, 2012 – Development Guild/DDI, a management consulting firm serving regional, national and global nonprofits in education, health & science, the arts, and human service, announced today that Susan Bragg Meurer has been promoted to Principal. Ms. Bragg Meurer joins an established leadership team that collaborates with nonprofit boards and senior leaders on organizational strategy, fundraising, and talent management.

“Our client work in talent management, which includes executive recruitment, leadership development, and departmental planning, has grown substantially over the past 18 months,” stated William Weber, President, Development Guild/DDI. “Susan will play an instrumental role in guiding this growth, especially in key markets like New York and Washington, D.C.”

As part of the leadership team, Ms. Bragg Meurer will work closely with Mr. Weber in advancing the firm’s pioneering executive recruitment strategy. She will focus on continuing to apply the science of using in-depth research and sophisticated targeting tools to the art of understanding human behavior, derived from the deep pool of nonprofit professional relationships the firm has built over three decades. This unique approach enables Development Guild/DDI to profile, identify, and recruit key executive leaders, many of whom are not actively in the job market.

“Attracting and retaining top executive talent is the cornerstone of your mission; it has a direct impact on your organization’s vision and strategic priorities,” said Ms. Bragg Meurer. “The fact that many of the executives we recruit aren’t actively in the job market is a testament to our unique approach and the subsequent success of our clients.”

Development Guild/DDI recently completed searches for a number of clients, including Children’s National Medical Center, Health Leads, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Museum of Science, and Wheaton College.

Ms. Bragg Meurer, who holds a B.A. from Emmanuel College and an M.S. from Boston University, joined Development Guild nearly two decades ago. During her tenure, she helped develop and refine time-tested methodologies and best practices for executive recruitment, staff assessment and redesign, transition planning, and executive coaching.

January 29, 2012 – Congratulations to our client Rebecca Onie who is included on the Forbes Top 30 Social Entrepreneurs list. Rebecca is the Founder and CEO of Health Leads, a national non-profit with the goal that one day doctors will be able to prescribe solutions that improve health, not just manage disease. With Health Leads, a doctor can “prescribe” food, housing, or other critical resources – just as they would medication. Patients take their prescriptions to the clinic waiting room, where Health Leads’ college volunteers are ready to connect them to these resources.

Development Guild/DDI recently recruited Chuck Gordon as Health Leads’ new Vice President of Development and Sue Dalelio as the Vice President of Regional Partnerships. Chuck will lead the fundraising enterprise, creating the overall strategy, goals, practice, and systems for the national and regional teams. Sue will be responsible for managing Health Leads’ five regional sites, working closely with the Executive Director in each region to develop health care partners, create program and volunteer strength, and build plans for regional growth.

In addition to our recruitment, we have been working with Health Leads to develop their national platform for fundraising. This work includes integration of the national and regional programs, design and launch of regional Councils to create local presence, shaping a leadership giving program to engage individual investors, and building out systems and practices that will help ensure financial sustainability.
