Development Guild/DDI is pleased to announce it will be the lead sponsor of the 2011 CASE District 1 Conference. Scheduled for January 27 th and 28 th at the Westin Copley Place, the annual conference offers a wide array of presentations and workshops on development, alumni relations, and communications/marketing to colleagues from nearly 200 schools, colleges, and universities from across New England and eastern Canada. The Key Decision Makers Program Sessions and Lunch, hosted by Development Guild/DDI, will be an invitation only opportunity for top-level advancement professionals to discuss relevant trends in the field including management, retention, recruiting, administration, and campaign fundraising. William Weber Presents with Janet Cady at 2010 Woodmark Forum

William Weber joined Janet Cady, President of the Children's Hospital Trust, Boston, to present “Recruiting In and After the Recession: What's New and What's Not” at the annual Woodmark Forum in Palo Alto , CA .  The 25 leading children's hospitals in North America who make up the Woodmark Group, gathered to advance pediatric philanthropy through collegial collaboration.  Weber and Cady led a discussion on how significant changes in fundraising practice affect organizations' policies and procedures about staffing: recruiting, retaining, creating internal staffing pipelines, and successfully positioning to become an “employer of choice” status in the competitive health and nonprofit fundraising marketplace.


Development Guild/DDI Client, World Wide Web Foundation, Receives $1Million Gift for Work in Africa

Development Guild/DDI client World Wide Web Foundation recently announced that Vodafone Group, the world's leading telecommunications company, will donate $1 million towards projects that will train entrepreneurs in Africa to leverage the Web as a platform for delivering locally relevant content, applications and services. A portion of the funding will also go to research on making the Web more accessible and valuable to people in developing economies. Development Guild/DDI has been consulting on the design and implementation of the World Wide Web Foundation's development plan. Development Guild/DDI Partners with International Relief and Development in Support of Haiti Relief Effort
January 2010

Since January, Development Guild/DDI has been partnering with International Relief and Development (IRD) in the DC area to support its fundraising for Haitian earthquake relief. The work has been fruitful and the impact in Haiti overwhelming. Millions of dollars and supplies are now at work in rebuilding Haiti's infrastructure and getting the country and its people on a path to self-sufficiency. Development Guild consultants Karen Lieberman-Daly and Jenn Musso have been providing strategic and resident counsel. Several days a week, Jenn travels to DC to manage the major gift and foundation fundraising programs, support Board members as they work on behalf of IRD, and operationalize the Haiti fundraising effort. Recently, the firm launched a search for IRD's Chief of Advancement. We hope that very soon they will have a great new fundraising leader and a stronger infrastructure of their own. Development Guild/DDI was the lead sponsor for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) 2010 District I Annual Conference.  The conference offered a variety of sessions and workshops on alumni relations, development, and communications/marketing. William Weber , President, Development Guild/DDI, and Victoria Jones , Senior Vice President, Development Guild/DDI, presented separate sessions. On January 28, 2010, Ms. Jones, Elizabeth Ayer Garvin (Vice President of Institutional Engagement at Rhode Island School of Design), and George Maley (Director of Development at Noble and Greenough School) presented “Ramping Up”, a session that focused on planning for campaigns in the current economic climate.  On January 29, 2010, Dr. Weber, Darrell Byers (Vice Chancellor of University Advancement at UMass Boston), Marjorie Houston (Executive Director of Development at Wheaton College), and Rob Scott (Executive Director of Development at Massachusetts Institute on Technology) presented “Mission and Metrics: They Can Peacefully Coexist!”, a session that focused on using performance metrics to strengthen the institution's ability to fulfill its mission. Drawing close to 1,000 attendees each year, the conference also offered a host of mentor, networking, and social opportunities.  The 2010 Conference was held Thursday January 28 through Friday January 29, 2010 at The Westin Copley Place, Boston.  For more information visit www.cased1conference.org.

Development Guild/DDI was the Presenting Sponsor for the AFP of Massachusetts' 26 th Annual Conference on Philanthropy, which took place on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Sheraton Hotel, Boston .  William Weber , President, Development Guild/DDI, facilitated a panel discussion titled “ Mission and Metrics ~ They Can Peacefully Coexist!”  The panel, which included Brian Lee (Vice President for University Advancement at Tufts University) and Erica de Rosa (Director of Development at A.R.T.), discussed how many nonprofits are successfully using performance metrics, like return on investment and business plans, to actually strengthen the organization's ability to fulfill its mission. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and The David and Lucile Packard Foundation Engage Development Guild/DDI to Conduct 18-month Evaluation of Six International Leadership Programs
January 2004

Development Guild/DDI is leading an evaluation of six international Population Leadership Development Programs funded by The David and Lucile Packard Foundation (Packard Foundation) and by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (Gates Foundation). This formative evaluation will assess the design and implementation of these six programs, and identify outcomes that are occurring in four focus countries -- Ethiopia, India, Mexico, and Nigeria. The ultimate goal of the evaluation is to provide information that will strengthen the impact of population leadership development programs, and assist The Gates and Packard Foundations to achieve their long-term strategic objective to improve the quality of, and access to, reproductive health care. The evaluation will be completed in December 2004.

Development Guild/DDI is partnering with Pathfinder International and The Leadership Learning Community. Together, these three organizations bring a wealth of expertise and knowledge in the areas of reproductive health and family planning in developing countries, effective leadership development program models and an excellent combination of qualitative and quantitative evaluation skills.
