The Carroll Center for the Blind welcomes Bettyann McKenzie as its new Vice President for Development/Chief Development Officer.

The Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton, MA serves the needs of blind and visually-impaired persons by providing rehabilitation, skills training, and educational opportunities to achieve independence, self-sufficiency, and self-fulfillment and by educating the public regarding the potential of persons who are blind and visually-impaired. In her new role, Bettyann will collaborate with the organization’s President, senior management, and a committed Board of Directors to lead the development program. In addition to maintaining a major gift portfolio, Bettyann will lead a team of four staff members and manage foundations, events, and direct mail activities. She will also participate in the Center’s new strategic plan and launch pre-campaign planning. Before joining the Carroll Center, Bettyann served as Vice President of Development at New England Sinai Hospital and Executive Director of the Sinai Foundation for four years. Prior to working for Sinai, she served as the Manager of Member Development and Services Outbound in the Development Department at WGBH, Channel 2.

The Clinton Health Access Initiative welcomes John Rockefeller as its new Director of Social Venture Initiatives.

The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), under the leadership of President William Jefferson Clinton III, has worked since 2002 to reduce the pricing of HIV/AIDS medicines and tests, and to work with governments around the world to build the systems needed to deliver care and treatment. Today, more than four million people living with HIV/AIDS are on lifesaving treatment using medicines purchased under CHAI agreements with manufacturers. In his role as Director of Social Venture Initiatives, John focuses on new resource development opportunities on the West Coast and extending CHAI’s global reach. John is responsible for identifying and soliciting new program partners and major financial donors from individual and selected institutional and corporate sources across CHAI program priorities including Drug Access, Disease Specific Programs, and Operational and Technical Support. John brings his experience as Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Zero Consult, a fund development consultancy that focuses on management, fund development, service expansion, and financial retooling of domestic and international non-profit organizations operating across the allied healthcare and disease research sectors.

Children’s Hospital Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Children’s National Medical Center, announces 4 closed searches.

Children’s National Medical Center, ranked consistently among the top pediatric hospitals in America by US News & World Report and the Leapfrog Group, is an internationally recognized team of more than 5,000 pediatric health care professionals serving over 360,000 patients each year regionally, nationally and internationally. A global leader in pediatric research, Children’s is the only exclusive provider of pediatric care in the Washington metropolitan area and the only freestanding children’s hospital between Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Norfolk and Atlanta. The Children’s Hospital Foundation promotes philanthropic investment for the benefit of Children’s National, raising approximately $45 million annually. In the past five years the Foundation has raised $480 million, including a transformational gift of $150 million, and is looking to build on this success by implementing a new strategic plan to continue to significantly grow their program.

In support of this effort, Children’s Hospital Foundation welcomes the following:

Marji Bayers, Director, Stewardship and Donor Relations
Reporting to the Vice President of Development, Marji will design and implement an innovative, donor-centered stewardship plan that retains individual and corporate donors and contributes to increased levels of giving. Marji brings sixteen year development experience to her role at Children’s Hospital Foundation, most recently as the Senior Director, Donor Relations at Georgetown University.

David Volz, Director, Development Information Systems and Services
In his newly-created role, David, who will report to the Executive Director of Business Operations, will be responsible for providing strategic leadership for the Foundation’s information and data systems and services. David, who was previously the Chief of Technology Services at B’nai B’rith International, joins Children’s Hospital Foundation with over twenty-five years experience in systems and technology management for nonprofits.

Emily Piccirillo, Senior Associate Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations
In her new role, Emily will work closely with the Foundation’s Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations to maintain and increase foundation and corporate support for Children’s National. Emily brings both fundraising and program management experience to this position from her roles as Manager, Grant Development and Coordination at the American Nurses Association, Foundation and Corporation Manager at Food and Friends, Inc., and through her work at Pediatric AIDS/HIV Care, Inc.

Leah Brady, Associate Director, Stewardship
Reporting to the Director of Stewardship and Donor Relations, Leah will contribute to the creation and implementation of an innovative, donor-centered plan that provides highly personalized and meaningful stewardship to major donors, board members, and other key stakeholders. Leah, who brings eight years development experience to her role at Children’s Hospital Foundation, was previously the Associate Director of Alumni Relations and Stewardship at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Cushing Academy announces Seamus Collins as its new Vice President of Development.

Founded in 1865, Cushing Academy has an enrollment of 445 boys and girls from 28 states and 28 countries. To prepare students to meet the opportunities and challenges of this century, Cushing Academy created the Cushing Institute for 21st Century Leadership in 2007, which included transitioning the library to a digital format, replacing the majority of the school’s books with electronic sources. In his new role, Seamus will create and build a philanthropic program that incorporates the best of fundraising practices with novel approaches to 21st century fundraising. Reporting directly to the Headmaster and partnering with the Board of Trustees, Seamus will focus on building and executing an innovative strategic plan for philanthropy that extends beyond Cushing’s upcoming 150th anniversary campaign. Seamus comes to Cushing from Lahey Clinic, where he held several senior fundraising positions, most recently as Senior Vice President, Philanthropy. Before Lahey, Seamus held fundraising positions at Joslin Diabetes Center and the American Heart Association.

Episcopal Divinity School welcomes Hugo De La Rosa as its new Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

Episcopal Divinity School (EDS) is an accredited seminary of the Episcopal Church that educates lay and ordained leaders and has long been recognized as an important voice in framing moral issues and advancing a mission of justice and inclusiveness, antiracism and feminism, and compassion and reconciliation. It is recognized for its leadership in providing theological scholarship, outstanding faculty, original research, spiritual formation, and pastoral development. In his new role, Hugo will report to the President and Dean, The Very Reverend Katherine Ragsdale, and will serve as a member of the school’s leadership team. He will partner with the President to cultivate and solicit major gifts; galvanize board and faculty support; promote philanthropy in support of EDS and its mission; and lead EDS’ advancement team. Hugo was most recently the Vice President of Development at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center where he reported to the medical center’s CEO. Previously, he held development positions at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston University College of Arts and Sciences and Phillips Academy.

Fitchburg State University announces Christopher Hendry as its new Vice President for Advancement.

Fitchburg State University, located in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, is a public institution dedicated to integrating high-quality professional programs with strong liberal arts and sciences studies. The university prepares its 7,000 full and part-time students to lead, serve, and succeed by fostering lifelong learning and civic and global responsibility. Fitchburg State University has more than 30 undergraduate programs and 22 master’s degree programs. In his new role, Chris will work closely with the President, Foundation Board, and senior leadership to build and strengthen the advancement team. He will design and implement a new strategic plan to expand the university’s fundraising efforts including major gifts, annual giving, foundation and corporate relations, planned giving, and alumni relations. Before joining Fitchburg State University, Chris served as Vice President of Advancement/Executive Director of the Framingham State University Foundation Inc. Chris’s prior positions held includes Executive Director at Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Director of Development at Fitchburg State University.

International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum welcomes Christine A. Frost as its new Chief Development Officer.

The International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum, founded in 1954 and located in Newport, RI is committed to preserving the history of tennis, inspiring and encouraging junior tennis development, enshrining tennis heroes and heroines, and providing a landmark for tennis enthusiasts worldwide. Housed in the historic Newport Casino, the 6-acre museum and grounds of the Hall of Fame complex is a multipurpose, year-round recreational facility and venue, showcasing an extensive year-round array of events and educational symposiums, and hosts the only professional grass court competition still played in the United States. Reporting directly to the CEO as a member of the senior management team, Christine will work closely with Board leadership to identify and provide strategies for expanding philanthropic growth, with particular focus placed on strengthening and growing their major gift portfolio. Christine brings over 11 years of development experience, having most recently served as Associate Director of Regional Development at Brown University working with major and principal gift donors. Prior to Brown, Christine worked as an Account Executive at advertising firms J. Walter Thompson and McCann-Erickson in New York City.

Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences announces Carole Corriveau as its new Chief Development Officer.

As one of the nation’s oldest non-profit, independent research centers, Manomet is pioneering new models for businesses, communities, and government to work together to create a more sustainable planet. Reporting to President John Hagan, Carole will grow investment from high-end donors and build an innovative, best-practice development program. She will play a key role in Manomet’s next phase of organizational growth and mission impact, as well as in continuing Manomet’s efforts to expand and enhance its Board of Trustees and engage new philanthropic leaders. Carole most recently worked as an independent consultant providing fundraising strategies, foundation and prospect research, coaching and grant writing for nonprofit organizations. Prior to consulting, Carole served as the Chief Development Officer for Bradley Hospital, a Lifespan Partner.

Mount Sinai Medical Center welcomes Laura Chiappetta as its new Director of Development, Department of Medicine.

Mount Sinai Medical Center, located in New York City, consists of The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Mount Sinai Medical Center is internationally acclaimed for excellence in clinical care, education, and scientific research in medicine. In support of Mount Sinai’s $1 billion campaign, Laura will raise funds for the medical center’s Department of Medicine. Laura most recently served as Associate Director of Development of Medicine for North America at The American University of Beirut. Prior to that position, Laura was Senior Development Officer for North America at American University in Cairo. Laura also held major gift fundraising positions, including Director of Development, at Columbia University Medical Center earlier in her career.

Phelps Memorial Hospital Center announces Lisa Koch as its Major Gifts Officer.

Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, located in Sleepy Hollow, NY, is a 238-bed acute care facility with an annual operating budget of $200 million. It is the 7th largest employer in Westchester County with over 1,500 employees. Lisa is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and donors with a multi-year pledge potential of five figures and more. Lisa most recently served as Director of Development for Major and Planned Gifts at SUNY Purchase College. Prior to that position she held Director-level positions at New York Medical College and Montefiore Medical Center.

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England welcomes Meagan Downey, CFRE as its new Vice President of Development and Marketing.

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) is the largest reproductive health care and sexuality education provider and advocate in northern New England with 20 locations across Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. In her new role, Meagan will oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of all fundraising and marketing activities. She will report directly to the CEO as part of the senior management team, supervise eight development staff, and work closely with the CEO and Board to expand private support and complete a capital campaign. Meagan comes to PPNNE from Planned Parenthood of Illinois, where she served as Vice President of Development and Marketing. Prior to this position, Meagan oversaw external relations and fund development activities for social service organizations in the greater Chicago area.
