The National Maritime Historical Society (NMHS) is pleased to welcome Jessica MacFarlane as its new Executive Director, effective September 1. Supported by roughly 7,000 members, the mission of NMHS is to raise awareness of the nation’s maritime heritage and the role seafaring has played in shaping civilization—through publications, educational programs and maritime conferences, partnerships, and outreach events.
Jessica has been a member of the NMHS leadership team for eight years, serving as the organization’s Vice President & Director of Development and reporting to President/Executive Director Burchenal Green, who is stepping down on August 31. In her previous role, Jessica advanced marketing, public relations, and online communications, worked to increase philanthropic support and membership, and managed key events for the organization. Prior to her time at NMHS, she worked for 14 years in the real estate development industry with roles in finance, communications, operations, and human resources.
In her new role at NMHS, Jessica will collaborate closely with trustees to lead strategic planning for the organization, advancing its goals of expanding a diverse membership, increasing revenue through operations and philanthropic support, and accelerating the Society’s digital and social media presence. Jessica is honored and excited to further the broad panorama of our global maritime heritage as the Executive Director of the National Maritime Historical Society.
