Camphill Village Copake and Camphill Ghent are excited to welcome Lawrence Klein to the team as Chief Development Officer. Lawrence has been a leader in development for 20+ years, with a notable impact during his 13 years at the Darrow School in New Lebanon, NY.
While at the Darrow School, Lawrence began as Associate Director of Advancement and General Counsel, working his way up to become Assistant Head of School for Institutional Advancement. Lawrence was part of two historic campaigns and an unprecedented $9M+ raise for Darrow’s emergency pandemic operating funds during his tenure. As leader of Darrow’s most recent campaign, Lawrence helped the school to raise 114% of their $7,500,000 goal. Well versed in major gifts, he was responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting the two largest gifts in Darrow’s history, including a 2.1M gift.
In addition, Lawrence brings achievement in managing development teams, strategy setting, corporate and foundation contributions, marketing and planned giving efforts, and providing advice and counsel on legal matters. Lawrence started his development career by founding the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art and the MoCCA Art Festival in NYC and prior to joining the development field, he had a career in corporate law. Lawrence is a graduate of Clark University and the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
At Camphill Village, Lawrence will lead an ambitious and growth-oriented comprehensive fundraising program, including annual giving, major and planned giving, institutional giving, and marketing and communications. In partnership with the Development Team, Development Committee, Focus Group, and Executive Leadership, Lawrence will focus on identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major and planned gifts to meet and exceed annual goals and grow the donor and prospect base to position the Camphill communities for future campaign success.
In his new role, Lawrence will support the great work of both Camphill Copake and Camphill Ghent. Funds raised will support roughly 230 peers of all abilities, cultures and gifts, who choose to reside, and thrive, on 750 acres of wooded hills, gardens, and pastures in New York’s Hudson Valley. At Camphill Ghent, Lawrence’s role involves ensuring residents enjoy robust amenities, services, and a vibrant social program, which contribute to their highest quality of life. Lawrence’s work will support the community in achieving Ghent’s mission and standard of celebrating, embracing, and honoring the special strengths and needs of each individual. Lawrence is eager to contribute his development expertise and passion to his work leading fundraising efforts across the organization, and to be a part of Camphill Village’s important mission.
