Most recently, Mike was Director of the Coastal Zone Initiative at Manomet Conservation Sciences. There he led multi-state coastal habitat restoration and resilience efforts, served on the Senior Leadership Team, and worked to secure foundation support to broaden the organization’s funding. His work included the Cape and Islands Restoration Action Team, which connected him with conservation partners across Cape Cod and the Islands.
Before Manomet, Mike was Deputy Director of the Coastal States Organization, a national group serving 35 coastal states and territories. In that role he led strategic planning, supported Board decisions, worked with Congressional offices on coastal resilience and habitat conservation, secured and managed restoration funding for the Great Lakes, and mentored early-career environmental professionals.
Mike spent the first 14 years of his conservation career with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. There he built Indiana’s Lake Michigan Coastal Program from the ground up, growing its staff from 1.5 to 6.5 and its annual budget to over $2 million. He also established Indiana’s Coastal and Estuarine Land Conservation Program, winning competitive federal funding to permanently protect more than 300 acres of important coastal habitat.
At BLT, Mike will provide strategic and organizational leadership as BLT builds on the success of its capital campaign and its recent growth. Working with the Board and staff, he will advance land conservation and stewardship, strengthen fundraising and revenue, support the organization’s long-term sustainability, and build relationships with members, donors, public officials, nonprofit partners, and the wider community.
Mike holds a Master of Public Affairs in Environmental Management, Policy, Science and Law from Indiana University’s Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences Education from Miami University.
About Barnstable Land Trust
Barnstable Land Trust meets the open space needs of its community by conserving land, caring for that land to improve its conservation value, and encouraging public access to and engagement with nature. Founded in 1983, BLT has conserved more than 1,275 acres and is committed to caring for those lands permanently.
Over the past ten years, BLT has pursued its goal to “grow into the organization our community needs us to be.” In that time it has conserved 23 properties covering 200 acres, opened 5 new trails, doubled its active volunteers and members, and greatly expanded its public programs, while tripling its staff and budget. A major capital campaign launched in 2025 has let BLT respond creatively to community needs, including saving a 10-acre golf course and buying a 25-acre cranberry bog for wetland restoration and recreation.
