Planned Parenthood’s 2018 Development Officers Council Conference

Development Guild DDI was a proud sponsor of Planned Parenthood’s 2018 Development Officers Council Conference. The annual conference brings together over two hundred development leaders from the Planned Parenthood Federal Association and independent affiliates to discuss the organization’s current development successes, as well as their anticipated priorities and concerns for the upcoming year. There were a number of fascinating takeaways regarding Planned Parenthood’s donor base and how the organization hopes to enhance fundraising efforts in 2019, including:

  • The number of young donors is on the rise: 40% of the organization’s donors are under 50, and of Planned Parenthood’s mid-level donors, 51% are under the age of 50.
  • Donors recognize and appreciate the political aspect of Planned Parenthood’s work: Many of Planned Parenthood’s donors feel that the current political administration has made it a dangerous time for women’s rights. Of those surveyed, reproductive rights were second only to climate change in regards to top political concerns when at the polls. Donors rely on Planned Parenthood to be advocates for sexual and reproductive health.
  • Donors trust Planned Parenthood for healthcare and news: Donors appreciate that Planned Parenthood provides healthcare with dignity and respect to all patients. Donors also trust Planned Parenthood to provide them with relevant and breaking news in regards to reproductive rights.
  • Donors want to do more than give money: Planned Parenthood donors want to be involved beyond their financial contributions; they want to give their time, they want to meet others who are committed to the same cause, and they want to spread the word. The level of their impact is highly important, and this is especially true for mid-level donors who yearn to understand how their donations contribute to the organization’s strategic approach to fundraising.

The Development Officers Council Conference was a valuable opportunity to better understand the development efforts and concerns of our client and to connect with Planned Parenthood leaders from across the country. Development Guild DDI’s Partnership with Planned Parenthood

Development Guild DDI is proud to have a long-standing relationship with Planned Parenthood. We began our work with Planned Parenthood over a decade ago when we launched our partnership with the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts in 2006. We provided strategic campaign counsel throughout the successful $30M comprehensive Sexual Health Matters Campaign and have also conducted successful executive searches for PPLM’s Director of Development and Vice President for Development.

Since then, we have engaged with the Planned Parenthood Federation of America to provide fundraising counsel for online operations and conduct two executive searches for senior-level Major Gift Officers; with Planned Parenthood of Southern New England to assess PPSNE’s fundraising operations in preparation for a $21M capital campaign for facilities in Connecticut and Rhode Island and to conduct two executive searches; and with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England to launch a $25M capital campaign for facilities in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, and to conduct executive searches for PPNE’s Vice President for Development and Major Gift Officer.

Development Guild DDI thanks Planned Parenthood for placing their trust in our firm and for the critical work they do every day in support of sexual and reproductive health and the freedom of choice for all.
