How the successful recruitment of 20+ new development professionals has contributed to Mount Sinai’s successful multi-billion campaigns

Formed in 2013 through the merging of the Mount Sinai Medical Center and Continuum Health Partners, the Mount Sinai Health System (Mount Sinai) is a comprehensive healthcare system that is internationally renowned for its research, patient care, and education. Mount Sinai is comprised of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and eight hospital campuses.

Development Guild DDI was retained in 2008 to help redesign the structure of the development office and recruit senor level staff for a campaign, which eventually raised more than $1.5B. To date, Development Guild has recruited over 20 fundraisers to Mount Sinai from such institutions as Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York-Presbyterian, NYU Langone Medical Center, University of California, Berkeley, University of Chicago, and University of Pennsylvania. We are currently recruiting additional fundraising staff in preparation for Mount Sinai’s $2B campaign, which focuses on 5 priorities for investment: recruiting talent, technology and bioinformatics, clinical and research programs, redesigning infrastructure, and innovative medical education.

I have retained Development Guild to recruit key staff positions for successful campaigns at three different academic medical institutions. For each engagement, we could count on their understanding of complex systems, creativity, ability to accurately assess candidates, and unwavering commitment to successful outcomes. My long-standing relationship with Development Guild has been the primary reason why we continue to engage them. They know our needs and the characteristics of the employee who will be successful within our system. The insights that Development Guild provide are unique in the field and in part this is a result of their search services being deeply informed by their fundraising practice, but I believe it also has to do with the continuity and dedication of their senior leadership.
