Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a trusted health care provider, an informed educator, a passionate advocate, and a global partner helping similar organizations around the world. Planned Parenthood delivers vital health care, reproductive health care, sex education, and information to millions of people worldwide. In New England, members of the Federation include PP of Northern New England (VT, NH and Maine) (PPNNE), PP League of Massachusetts (PPLM), and PP of Southern New England (RI and CT) (PPSNE). Development Guild began its Planned Parenthood (PP) work with PPLM in 2006 and eventually partnered with all the New England affiliates to provide campaign and executive search counsel, as well as with the Federation headquarters staff in New York to provide both fundraising and executive search services.
Development Guild began its partnership with Planned Parenthood through Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts. PPLM hired the us to provide Strategic Campaign Counsel throughout the successful $30M comprehensive Sexual Health Matters Campaign (2006 – 20012), under the leadership of then CEO Dianne Luby and Chief Development Officer Claudia Luck. In 2006 we also conducted a successful executive search for PPLM’s Director of Development. Shortly after the successful completion of the campaign, Ms. Luby retired. She was succeeded by Marty Walz, CEO. In 2014, we provided fundraising counsel to Ms. Walz and successfully recruited Ellen Frank as Vice President for Development. Ellen remains CDO today in partnership with PPLM’s new CEO, Jennifer Childs-Roshak.
In 2008 we began a two-year partnership with the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) providing fundraising counsel to Maryana Iskander, then COO, and Tom Subak, then Chief Technology Officer, as PPFA launched a mini-campaign to fund expansion of its online operations. During that time, we also successfully completed two executive searches for senior level major gift officers at PPFA (National Director of Major Gifts and Senior Major Gift Officer).
We launched our partnership with Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) in 2009 (the affiliate was then known as Planned Parenthood of Connecticut) when CEO Judy Tabar engaged us to assess PPSNE’s fundraising operations in preparation for a campaign. In 2010 we updated our assessment and in 2011, partnered with Judy and Mar Wren, CDO, to plan for and launch a $21M Capital Campaign to upgrade, relocate, and expand facilities in CT and RI and expand educational and outreach efforts across both states. The Campaign concluded successfully at $22M, $1M over goal, in 2016. It was a fitting tribute to the 20-year tenure of Ms. Tabar, who retired soon after. During this period Development Guild also conducted two successful executive searches, both for the Vice President of Development position.
In 2010, then CEO Steve Trombley hired Development Guild to partner with him, his board and his Development team to plan for and launch a $25M Capital Campaign to upgrade, relocate and expand their health center and education and advocacy efforts across three states (ME, NH, and VT). We also conducted executive searches for PPNNE’s Vice President for Development (2010) and Major Gift Officer (2011). Development Guild and PPNNE’s partnership continued despite leadership changes in both the CEO and CDO positions. We provided campaign counsel to new CEO, Meagan Gallagher, and new VPD, Ellen Gitomer, throughout the Campaign’s successful conclusion in 2015.
